The outbreak of the disease also caused panic across the state due to the reported number of fatalities.

Since the outbreak was announced in Imo,

many well meaning individuals and groups have been emphasizing on the need for parents and guardians to take issues of immunisation serious.

Some have called for high level hygiene on the part of families, as part of measures that can help contain the disease.

Nigeria Newspoint joins the call for parents and guardians to ensure that their children or young ones are always  presented for immunisation each time the programme is going on.

Parents and guardians should make it a point of duty to ensure that their children receive the three doses of the DTP vaccine against diphtheria disease.

They should also do same for vaccinations against other deadly, contagious diseases.

This is because the saying that prevention is better than cure

cannot be emphasised
